“Igor”

(Written 03/14/23)

He sits by me but he isn’t really there

You can tell he’s gone by his far off stare

Does anyone care

He wonders

This life to him hasn’t been fair

His soul has been torn

Almost since the day he was born

Separated from his sister, his Mom and his Dad

Growing up in Russia

They were all he ever had

Heartbroken, they were forced to separate

when his Dad passed away

He was then mistreated, lied to and betrayed

He was just a kid

He was angry, confused, hurt and thoroughly dismayed

Sent to an orphanage to live out his days

With his sister, always together and that is how they stayed

Until one day he got adopted by an American family

When he heard, he knew he didn’t want to GO

Would they also adopt his sister?

Without her, the question of

Living with this strange new family was always going to be be NO

So he sits here empty. A vessel that needs to be filled.

A heart full of passion that his life has all but killed

He deserves so much love and compassion

In order for his heart to grow

And when I look into his sparkling green eyes

I can tell that he doesn't know

That he is the most amazing person

His life, mind and heart is limitless

He shines just like a star

This world is so much better because he’s in it

He got the capacity, in this life, to go very far.
